The school turned 50 in 2012. The school's headteacher is Mrs Sharon Farrell.Mrs Jeanette Lovejoy is the deputy head and the assistant head is Mr Joss Andrews. Mr Dean Judge is chair of the governors. The school was initially built to provide a place for older students to go so that the infant school could have more space. The school opened boasting features not commonly found in British schools at the time. It had a fully equipped library, showers, practical areas, two rooms per year, offices, staff room and later on an art area with kitchen and kiln. The school also features a state of the art ICT suite which is of a higher quality than other schools in the area. The school also had a swimming pool in the quad area around years 3, 4 and 5, but this was filled in because of the pub next door. Often drunk attendees of the pub would climb onto the school roof and chuck their glasses into the pool, filling it with shards of dangerous glass. The school employs a three tier governance system. At the top is the senior management team which includes the head, the deputy and the assistant head teacher as well as the bursar. Then there is the leadership team which consists of the SENCO, head of science and the achievement for all leader. Finally there is the general staff which answers its own question. The school has a thriving science department and many pupils join the science profession in later life. Currently it's science department is headed by Christopher Wolsely who was an lecturer in science before becoming a teacher. The school is divided into three houses Osprey(green), Eagle(yellow)and Kestrel(red). Every child and teacher belongs to a house and all students are given a house point card which they are able to collect house points with. The house with the most points each term is given a prize. This also happens at the end of the year. In PE all pupils have a games top adorned with their house color. On sports day the houses compete against each other with their scores then getting converted into house points which then go to the termly prize. Every term house captains are elected to run each house. Usually they are from yr 6 and are expected to do duties at lunchtimes and other periods of the day.In January 2012 the school celebrated its fiftieth birthday. To celebrate a variety of events were available to the students. This included drama and art workshops as well as a mosiac created by the whole school.This concluded of three scenes depicting the opening of the school. What classrooms were like in the 60's and what the playground was like. It was met to great applause and involved a combination of historical fact with comic influence. The school employs a system of volunteers (all pupils) to mediate arguments and run games at lunchtime. This has been complimented on by ofsted.Abbots Farm Junior School is in the Hillmorton extended services group. Its header school is Ashlawn School.. }
