Between 2005 and 2010 he sailed twice around the world in Berrimilla, a Brolga class 33 ft sailing boat. In 2010 he has been awarded by the Blue Water Medal for a circumnavigation of the world via the North West Passage West to East.Alex grew up in England, learning to sail with his father. After leaving the Royal Navy in 1965, he emigrated to Australia where he worked for Adastra Aerial Surveys.In 1993 Alex and his partner Hilary Yerbury bought the sailboat Berrimilla, an Australia designed Brolga 33.
