It is located on the United States Air Force Base in Aviano, Italy which is operated by the 31st Fighter Wing. Students are dependents of active duty military, civilian, and Department of Defense employees, although a small percentage are children of expats or foreign residents. The school and DoDDS is governed by the higher organization known as Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). As of the 2008-2009 school year Aviano Middle School and Aviano High School were joined into one school now serving grades 6-12. It is classified as a Division II school in DoDDS Europe. In the past, Aviano Middle/High School has been mostly recognized throughout DoDDS Europe for their high test scores, European/ASIL championship titles, and Air Force JROTC unit.
