At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a population of 21,395 people living in 3908 individual households.Bahundangi is a Village Development Committee located at the Easternmost part of Jhapa district. It is bordered with India towards East and South. The total population is 22897 according to 2001 census. The majority of the people are farmers, mostly cultivating rice, tea, arecanut, ginger, etc. Because of its open border most people have free access to India where they go for shopping and medication to the adjoining Indian market Naxalbari. To and fro illegal trade between the two areas is also present mostly in arecanut, ginger, paddy and timber. The village is remote with gravel connection to Kakarbhitta which is almost 9 kilometers from the bahundangi bazaar.The main problem of the village is wild elephants which move to and fro between Nepal and India and destroy the crops and houses too. More than 20 people have been killed due to these elephants till now. Government has taken many steps to solve the Elephant problem, but all those majors failed.One Police Station has also been deployed in Bahundangi for the safety and welfare of people. Around, 50 Police are running the police station who solves major issues in these area.A weekly market has been scheduled on every Thursday where all the Vendors from many different places comes in Banundangi to sell their products such as, Clothes, Cosmetics and other basic needs. It helps the people to avail all the basic needs without going anywhere. Also, many Traders from native country, "India" also comes here in Bahnundangi to sell their products.This trend has been following by the native of Bahundangi since more than 100 years.There is the majority of Brahman in Bahundangi. The term bahundangi is the combination of Bahun (Brahman, the most celeb cast of Nepal), and Dangi (also called Birta, Place). There are so many sub-castes in Bahundangi, such as Neupaney, Niraula, Budhathoki, Khanal, Poudel, Khadka, Basnet, Karki,etc. Other Caste of People also resides in Bahundangi such as, Newar, Magar, Gurung, Biswakarma, Rai etc. All the people in Bahundangi are leaving happily with peace and love among each other despite a multi caste peoples living in this areas.People in Bahundangi have a real craze in games such as Football, Cricket, Volleyball etc. The Bahundangi Club organizes various Football and Cricket matches every year, so as to promote new talents in the country. There are many talents in these areas which can be turned around in a bright future in the field of sports in Nepal.The "Yuva Jagaran Aviyan Bahundangi" was initiated by the youths of the native peoples from Bahundangi to create awareness among people to make the area clean and hygienic. Many young boys, girls, children took part in this awareness program.The "Jhapa Jaycees" Club have organized an invitational football tournament in Bahundangi, Jhapa from Bhadra 14 2069 B.S local calendar of Nepal or 30 August 2012 (A.D).The participating teams are hosts team, Munal Club, Birtamod Youth Club, APF Jhapa, Morang XI, Sunsari XI, UKFC Darjeeling and SAI Academy Siliguri will take part in the championship.. }
