A 7.5-acre (3.0 ha) area at the site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976; the listing included one contributing site and two contributing objects.It was, along with Suicide Cliff, also NRHP-listed, the site of numerous suicides by Japanese civilians and Japanese soldiers, towards the end of the Battle of Saipan, in which the United States was capturing the island.
