Soon after, the residents wanted to use it as a chapel. The "bedehus" chapel, which has a seating capacity of 100, was consecrated for church functions on 26 February 1911.The name Batalden stems from the big island a little to the north of Fanøya. The chapel was built on the island of Fanøya as a "bedehus" because of the rich herring fisheries where a large number of fishermen from all parts of the coast congregated for long periods of time during the winter months.. }
