It is based upon the Netherlands series of the same name, which gained notoriety in 1999 and 2000. The series premiered on CBS on July 13, 2008 and lasted ten weeks until the live finale on September 16, 2008. The tenth season saw a slight increase in ratings compared to the past seasons of the series, which had the lowest ratings. The season premiered to a total of 6.29 million viewers, the lowest premiere numbers for any season. The season finale had a total of 7.63 million viewers, the third lowest rated finale. The series averaged 6.72 million viewers, making it the second lowest rated season of the series. Big Brother 10 featured a total of 13 HouseGuests, the first time there had been a decrease in the number of HouseGuests. The series ended after 71 days, in which HouseGuest Dan Gheesling was crowned the Winner, and Memphis Garrett the Runner-Up.The premise of the series remained largely unchanged from previous editions of the series, in which a group of contestants, known as "HouseGuests," compete to win the series by voting each other off and being the last HouseGuest remaining. One HouseGuest, known as the Head of Household, nominates two fellow HouseGuests for eviction. The winner of the Power of Veto can remove one of the nominees from the block, forcing the HoH to nominate another HouseGuest. The HouseGuests then vote to evict one of the nominees, and the HouseGuest with the most votes is evicted. When only two HouseGuests remain, the last seven evicted HouseGuests, the Jury of Seven, decide which of them would win the $500,000 prize. A HouseGuest can be expelled from the show for breaking rules, such as discussing nominations when not permitted. This season was noted as a "Back to Basics" season and featured no main twist that impacted the game and saw the return of the America's Player twist during one week of the game. Big Brother 10 was the first season to feature no past relationships among the HouseGuests since Big Brother 3.Following their appearance on this season, numerous HouseGuests have appeared in various other editions of the series. HouseGuest Jessie Godderz returned to compete as a HouseGuest on Big Brother 11 the following year, coming in 9th place. Jessie would go on to make appearance in the twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth seasons as a guest. HouseGuest Brian Hart was also a candidate to return for Big Brother 11, though his "clique" failed to win the first Head of Household competition and he did not enter the game. Winner Dan Gheesling also returned in Big Brother 11 to host a luxury competition. Dan later returned to Big Brother 14 in 2012 as a coach to new HouseGuests, though a twist in the game made him an official HouseGuest; he came in 2nd place and if currently the only houseguest to have made into the final 2 twice.. }
