The sixth form common room was opened much later at the end of the 08/09 year due to the old "clc building" being reallocated as the ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) Centre. The old buildings have now been demolished and landscaped.The school has learning communities named: Cougar, Panther, Leopard, Lynx, Serval, Puma and Jaguar. Each community operates as a 'school-within-a-school', leading to improved human-scale learning. Cougar and Panther are for the younger students in years 7 and 8. Puma, Leopard and Jaguar are for the older members of the school in years 9, 10 and 11. BEC also offers a sixth-form scheme for those not wanting to go to a college.
