With Phase 2, the line was extended 8.7 km (5.4 mi) southeast from Seomyeon to Geumnyeonsan on 8 August 2001. It was extended 0.9 km (0.56 mi) north to Gwangan on 16 January 2002, and finally, on 29 August 2002, it was extended 8 km (5.0 mi) east to Jangsan.Part of phase 3, started in 1998, extended Line 2 north from Hopo to the Yangsan city hall. Originally, it was to have 7 stations, reaching the Bukjeong region; but currently, only 4 are built, with only 3 operating.
