Ella was born and educated in Cobourg, Ontario. In 1883 she married her first husband, George K. Shoenberger, Esquire, of "Scarlet Oaks," Cincinnati, one of the "Iron Kings" of Pennsylvania (he died 1892). After Sir John A. Macdonald's death, Mrs. Harriss purchased and occupied "Earnscliffe," a Victoria Manor house which had been his former place of residence at Ottawa, Ontario. She served as President of the Woman's Morning Music Club, and other official positions of that character.. }
