He moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin and then Manitowoc County, Wisconsin to practice law. In 1855-1857, Walker served in the Wisconsin State Assembly. In 1857, he was elected Wisconsin County Judge for Manitowoc County. He resigned to join the United States Army and was commissioned a captain serving in the 21st Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment serving during the American Civil War. He died in Manitowoc Rapids, Wisconsin as a result of strokes.. }
