The song, about the upbringing of Lynn's life made the song her signature song and also made this album very popular. The album peaked at #4 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and #81 on the Billboard 200. The album was eventually certified "Gold" by the RIAA for selling 500,000 copies, becoming Lynn's third gold album.The album's name would be used for the name of Lynn's best-selling autobiography as well as the 1980 Oscar-winning movie starring Sissy Spacek.Lynn later struck a similar pose for the cover of her autobiography as on this album but it was not the same photograph.Besides the hit single, Lynn wrote two additional songs for this album, including "What Makes Me Tick". Many of the album's 11 tracks consist of 70s hit singles by other artists, including Ray Price's "For the Good Times" and "Snowbird" by Anne Murray.
