He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association for Psychological Science and in 2013 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.Prior to his academic career, Levitin worked as a producer and sound designer on albums by Blue Öyster Cult, Chris Isaak, and Joe Satriani; as a consultant to Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder and Michael Brook; and as a recording engineer for Santana and The Grateful Dead.
