The Atlanta Braves selected him in the first round of the 1987 MLB Draft from the University of Georgia (UGA). In his MLB career, Lilliquist played for the Braves (1989–90), San Diego Padres (1990–91), Cleveland Indians (1992–94), Boston Red Sox (1995) and the Cincinnati Reds (1996). Since 2002, he has coached in the Cardinals organization, and began serving on the major league staff in 2011.While playing for UGA, Lilliquist was selected as Baseball America's Pitcher of the Year and was an All-American in 1987.
