It emerged from formats developed by Bill Gates and Phil Cullen at ABC Coast FM, which broadcast an Adult Alternative music format and was for many years ABC Radio's only continuous stream. As of 2009, ABC Radio had launched the three new music services on digital radio stations.As with Coast FM, DiG plays music from the genres of pop, rock, blues, country, soul, jazz and world music, aimed at over-30s (including an audience perhaps graduated from the ABC's youth radio station, Triple J).
