GIVE was founded in 1994 as a program for students in grades 6 through 12 with severe discipline issues that prevented them from attending their home school. Students may be assigned to the GIVE Center anywhere from 10 days to one calendar year. Students exiting the juvenile justice system also attend GIVE for 30 days as a transition program to their home schools. GIVE originally was housed in the basement of Collins Hill High School, but relocated to a shared facility with Hooper-Renwick School in Lawrenceville. The Hooper-Renwick site however did not have enough space to house all students which meant students would, regardless of school district be sent to GIVE Center West in Norcross. In the 2006-2007 school year, GIVE East moved to new facilities at 723 Hi Hope Road in Lawrenceville and can now house approximately 500 students. Students at GIVE are expected to complete the Gwinnett County Academic Knowledge and Skills curriculum just as they would at their home schools and complete all standardized testing. In 2011, GIVE East DID NOT Meet AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) as measured by the State of Georgia Department of Education. It did not meet AYP criteria in:1. Academic Performance2. Attendance RateThese facts are presented as a matter of public record by the State of Georgia Department of EducationIn March 2012 GIVE East was placed on the "Priority" list by the State Department of Education. This designation replaces the "Needs Improvement" label under No Child Left Behind. As a result, Districts with priority schools must submit an effectiveness plan to the state identifying areas of need. The state will then designate a specialist to monitor the implementation of that plan. State officials also will meet with district officials, review data and go over specific areas of need. Professional learning and support will be provided.GIVE East serves students from the following clusters:Archer (Includes Archer High School, and J.P.
