A letter dated 1751 comments that: "the Duke of Kingston at Thoresby Hall is spending all his time practising cricket because he is to play for Eton v All England in three matches".On 8 March 1769, Pierrepont married Elizabeth Chudleigh, Duchess of Kingston (Elizabeth Hervey) at St George's, Hanover Square London (in a bigamous marriage). Evelyn died in 1773 without issue and his titles became extinct. On the death of his wife, his estates passed to his nephew Charles Medows (later Pierrepont) who became 1st Earl Manvers in 1806.. }
