After beginning his career with the Seattle Indians he was sold to and would play for the Chicago Cubs. An injury sent him back to the Chicago farm system as a Player/Manager. "Handsome Harry" volunteered into the Navy at the beginning of WWII and, although he took all of the combat training, because of his age and background as a professional athlete, he was made a fitness officer. After the war he rejoined the Cubs organization for a short time and then became a business man until his death from leukemia in 1969. At the time of his death he was survived by his second wife, a son, a daughter and a granddaughter.. }
