The European Parliament constituencies used under that system were smaller than the later regional constituencies and only had one Member of the European Parliament each.When the constituency was created in 1979, it consisted of the Westminster Parliament constituencies of Bridlington, Brigg and Scunthorpe, Haltemprice, Howden, Kingston upon Hull Central, Kingston upon Hull East and Kingston upon Hull West. In 1984, Brigg and Scunthorpe, Haltemprice, Howden and Kingston upon Hull Central were replaced by Beverley, Brigg and Cleethorpes, Great Grimsby and Kingston upon Hull North. In 1994, Brigg and Cleethorpes and Great Grimsby were replaced by Boothferry and Glanford and Scunthorpe.In 1999, the constituency became part of the much larger Yorkshire and the Humber constituency.. }
