It was originally conceived as a publishing experiment by writer and media consultant Stephen Saunders with the goal of using very large amounts of proprietary content to create a highly qualified, highly engaged online community. Internet Evolution was launched in October, 2007 by UBM Techweb with sponsorship from technology and consulting firm IBM.In 2010, UBM launched DeusM, a start-up company, with the intention of repeating the Internet Evolution model. Stephen Saunders became Managing Director of DeusM which went on to launch another seven online communities in 2011.Updated several times daily, the content at Internet Evolution includes opinion pieces written by editorial staff, independent analysts and registered members of its community, as well as streamed video content and live chats. Internet Evolution Radio also streams interviews with Internet analysts and opinion-formers.Contributors to the site have included Parry Aftab, Jart Armin, Robert D. Atkinson, John Barnes, Vint Cerf, Cory Doctorow, Tom Hayes, Andrew Keen, Paul Levinson, Kate Pullinger, Lawrence Roberts, Howard Schmidt and Stephen Viscusi. Guests on live streaming IE Radio have included Craig Newmark, Jason Calacanis, Aneesh Chopra, Clay Shirky, Ellen Miller, Philip Rosedale, Jimmy Wales, Gil Elbaz, Andrew Keen, and Richard Boly.Editorial content from Internet Evolution has been featured in national and local media.As of 7 March 2014 the site has been completely de-activated, with links to any historical content all being redirected to www.informationweek.com, a broader-scope sister publication of site owner, UBM.. }
