Patino's grandfather was Simón Iturri Patiño, who among other pastimes collected rare golf sporting items which were sold in London at Christie's Auction House in 2012 He was also a major figure in the world of contract bridge, being president of the World Bridge Federation from 1976 to 1986.Patino died in a Malagan hospital on 3 January 2013, aged 82, from undisclosed causes.. }
