He played college football at the University of Texas at Austin from 1966 to 1969. He engineered the Longhorns' wishbone offense from the third game of the 1968 season through the 1969 season, including the 1970 Cotton Bowl Classic. He was undefeated as a starting quarterback and in his senior campaign led the Longhorns to the national championship, beating Arkansas in "The Big Shootout" and Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl Classic. Street played under coach Darrell Royal. He was also a right-handed pitcher on the Longhorns baseball team. Street tossed two no-hitters in helping lead the Longhorns to two Southwest Conference titles.He had five sons, including San Diego Padres pitcher Huston Street. He died of a heart attack at his home in Austin, Texas, on September 30, 2013.. }
