He was succeeded as Premier by Li Jingxi.The monarchists Zhang Xun and Kang Youwei drawn up a plan for the restoration of the Qing dynasty and showed up in Beijing, drawing Jiang into their plan. On 1 July, on Zhang Xun's instructions, war minister Wang Shizhen, army commander Jiang Chaozong, and former Qing dignitary Liang Qichao acted on this plan, which failed. The plan to restore Emperor Puyi failed.Jiang leased land to Dr. Ethel Margaret Phillips in Beijing. He held high rank during the Qing dynasty and in 1917 served as Mayor of Beijing.Jiang ended up collaborating with the Japanese during the Second Sino Japanese War, joining the Provisional Government of the Republic of China. He was declared a traitor by the Chinese government and died in 1943.. }
