Darr served in that capacity until November 27, 1940, due to assignment to another court.Darr was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. Darr was nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on May 24, 1939, to a new seat created by 52 Stat. 584. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on May 31, 1939, and received his commission on June 2, 1939. He served as chief judge from 1949-1961. He assumed senior status on March 15, 1961.
