She contested the seat at the 2005 General Election, when she came second to the incumbent MP, David Borrow. She contested the seat again in the 2010 General Election when she defeated David Borrow with an 8.1% swing from the Labour Party to the Conservative Party, and regained the seat for the Conservative Party after 13 years.In the 2010 election, her personal campaign was the most expensive in the country.
