Much of his writing has been authored under the pen name, M. S. Shahed. According to his own biography, Seraji started writing poetry at the age of nine. Before earning his law degree from the University of Tehran, he worked in the Iranian Imperial government at the Ministry of Agriculture. Seraji immigrated to the United States where his son had lived since 1976. Seraji currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area near his son, Mahbod Seraji, author of Rooftops of Tehran.
