While listening to the monks chanting, he realized that each monk was producing multiple simultaneous notes, a chord from one voice. He made a recording of the chanting and had engineers at MIT confirm the phenomenon.The recording was originally released as an LP on Anthology Records, and in 2005 Smith made an agreement with mondayMEDIA to digitize the original master tapes for release as a CD on the GemsTone label.
