The story follows loners, the pragmatic Hachiman Hikigaya and beautiful Yukino Yukinoshita who despite their varying personalities and ideals, offer help and advice to others as part of their school's Service Club. It largely depicts various social situations faced by teens in a high school setting and the psychology driving their interactions. The anime is produced by Brain's Base and directed by Ai Yoshimura, with series composition by Shōtarō Suga, character design by Yū Shindō, art direction by Shigemi Ikeda and sound direction by Satoshi Motoyama. The anime's first episode premiered on April 4, 2013, on TBS and aired later on MBS, CBC and BS-TBS. The series was picked up by Crunchyroll for online simulcast streaming in North America and other select parts of the world. Anime on Demand also obtained the series for streaming. The season ran for twelve episodes, ending on June 20, 2013 and was followed by an extra anime-original episode, which aired on June 27, 2013 and an original OVA episode which was bundled with the limited edition of the PSVita game "Yahari Game demo Ore no Seishun Rabu Kome wa Machigatteiru." on September 19, 2013. Both episodes were written by Wataru Watari.The anime was licensed by Sentai Filmworks for distribution via select digital outlets and a home media release in North America. It was also licensed by Madman Entertainment for release in Australia. Marvelous AQL released the series in Japan on seven Blu-ray and DVD volumes between June 26, 2013 and December 25, 2013. Sentai Filmworks will release the season in its entirety on DVD format on July 22, 2014 in North America with English subtitles.The season use five pieces of theme music: one opening theme, three closing themes and one insert song. The main opening theme is "Yukitoki" (ユキトキ) by Nagi Yanagi. The main ending theme is "Hello Alone" by Saori Hayami and Nao Tōyama. "Hello Alone -Yui Ballade-" by Nao Tōyama is used as the ending theme of episode 5 while the ending theme of the extra anime-original episode is "Hello Alone -Band Arrange-" by Saori Hayami and Nao Tōyama. "Bitter Bitter Sweet" performed by Yukino Yukinoshita (Saori Hayami) and Yui Yuigahama (Nao Tōyama) is used as the insert song of episode 12, and it is also credited but not played in episode 11.. }
