Later, he moved to San Diego, California where he found a job at the Sidney-Kimmel Cancer Center where he was studying cancer gene therapy. He joined University of California, Los Angeles in 1995 and served there as a resident till 1999. There, he also studied at the Molecular Biology Institute with Arnold Berk and in 2003 became a member of its STAR program.
