Matches in DBpedia 2014 for { ?s ?p On the evening of Sunday, March 16, 2014, Albuquerque Police Department responded to a report of a homeless mentally handicapped man, James Boyd, camping in the foothills outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico. After hours of standoff and as Boyd gathered his belongings and attempted to surrender to officers, the police officers launched a flash bang grenade, and ordered Boyd to get on the ground. Boyd then appeared to pull out a knife and made a threatening motion towards the police, two officers (Keith Sandy and Dominique Perez) opened fire with a rifle, shooting Boyd in the back. Boyd fell to the ground, an officer released a police dog while other officers shot him with bean bag rounds and handcuffed him. The shooting was captured via a helmet-mounted camera by the policemen at scene and released to the public. The shooting is being investigated, the department maintains that the shooting was justified.One of the officers responsible for the shooting, Keith Sandy, faced criminal charges in 2007 for receiving payments from a private security contractor while working for the State Police, then-Deputy Chief Mike Castro said would not be badged or allowed to carry a gun.A peaceful protest was held on March 25, 2014 in response to the shooting of James Boyd and the reported violent behavior exhibited by the Albuquerque police department.
