Born in Sydney, he served the 2nd Anti-Aircraft Trg Regt in Darwin from 1939 to 1943 during the Bombing of Darwin. In 1943 he signed-up for the Empire Air Training Scheme where he received pilot training in Tiger Moth aircraft. He was medically discharged from the Scheme after suffering from mastoiditis. Not yet satisfied with his contribution to the war, he signed-up with the United States Merchant Marines where he served on ships involved in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. After the war he became a drover and horsebreaker, as well as an organiser for the Liberal Party. In 1958, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Liberal member for Kalgoorlie. He held the seat until his defeat in 1961. He then served as the private secretary to Treasurer, Harold Holt in the Menzies government. Browne died in Fremantle 2000.Peter Browne had three children, Rosemary, Stephen and Peter.. }
