Although 0.028 km² at its southern point is part of the USA (Town of Derby, Orleans County in the State of Vermont), the predominant part belongs to the city of Magog (known as Mem-Toag by the Native North Americans), in Memphrémagog Regional County Municipality, Quebec. At the end of the 18th Century a pioneer named Martin Adams and his wife built a house on the island, where they grew flax and vegetables. The island was previously known as Zabriskie and Howard Island. It is in private property; a pheasant hunt is organized annually. The border between Canada and the USA is marked by a five meter strip marked in the forest by trees.. }
