He was born in London.Horne would go on to win several other important events on the British Tour, including the 1948 News Chronicle tournament, the 1949 Daily Telegraph pro-am (a matchplay foursomes event) and the 1952 Silver King tournament. He very nearly won the 1947 Open Championship at Hoylake, scoring a 71 in the final round to catch and overtake players like Henry Cotton and Norman Von Nida as the third round leaders all struggled, but in the end just failed to catch Irishman Fred Daly by one shot. Horne would regularly finish in the top thirty of the Open over the following decade, without ever again coming as close to victory. Horne won the PGA Seniors Championship in 1960.. }
