He was drafted in the 50th round of the June 1989 season by the Seattle Mariners, He played 12 seasons of professional baseball with the Mariners, Chicago Cubs, and Houston Astros. He served as the hitting instructor for rookie-level Mesa Angels in 2002 for 2 seasons.In 2003 Magallanes was named the manager of the Cedar Rapids Kernels. In 2005 Magallanes guided Cedar Rapids to a 65-75 record and narrowly missed making the playoffs by one game in the second half. In his professional managerial debut with the Kernels in 2004, Magallanes led the Kernels to a 75-64 record and a spot in the Midwest League playoffs. In 2006 the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced that he would be returning for his third consecutive season as the skipper of the Cedar Rapids Kernels.Between 2007 and 2010 Magallanes was promoted to Manager of the Arkansas Travelers, the Double A affiliate of the Angels.Magallanes' older brother, Ever, is a manager in the Angels' system.
