He Studied Music Business and Classical piano for two years at New York University. Then attended the New School to study Jazz Piano. His Teachers included Kenny Werner and Hal Galper.He was signed to SBK Records while at the New School. In 1991, and a self-titled album, produced by Phil Ramone, followed later that year. The album debuted on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, and the single, "My Heart Belongs to You", hit No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100.and the song "I Need You Now" hit No. 36 on the Radio & Records Rock chart. Irwin toured with his own band, opening for Roxette in 1992, and went on to play with Mayfield featuring Curt Smith, lead singer of Tears for Fears, later in the 1990s. He later went on to tour with Aerosmith (1997–present), Sting, (2000-2001) Bryan Adams (2002), Cheap Trick, John Fogerty and Duncan Sheik as a keyboardist, background vocalist and guitarist.More recently, he has written songs for Aerosmith, Foreigner, Meat Loaf Bat out of Hell 3 which debuted at #8 on the top 200 billboard album charts and Scorpions. In 2006 Irwin produced Clay Aiken's single "I Want to Know What Love Is" on the hit record A Thousand Different Ways which debuted on Billboards top 200 albums charts at #2. . In 2008, Irwin performed in the band for the Chris Botti Live in Boston DVD, performing with Sting, Steven Tyler and the Boston Pops Orchestra. He has also performed multiple times on The Tonight Show, The David Letterman Show, the Super Bowl, the Grammy Awards, the Academy Awards and Saturday night live.In 2012, Irwin released his self-produced, second solo album Get Me Home, which includes guest artists Steven Tyler and Brad Whitford of Aerosmith, Chris Botti and Dean DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots. The song 'Manhattan' premiered on the Bravo's The Real Housewives of New York in which he appeared several times with his girlfriend at the time, Carole Radziwill.Currently, Irwin has co-written the Aerosmith Adult top 20 hit "What Could Have Been Love" on their album Music From Another Dimension and the top 10 hit 'Lollipop' for Japanese artist Lisa Hirako.. }
