He is currently assistant coach of the Corpus Christi IceRays.Bennett played junior hockey in the North American Hockey League for the Danville Wings and then the United States Hockey League with the Des Moines Buccaneers and Omaha Lancers.After finishing up his college commitments, Bennett turned professional in 2004 with the Adirondack Frostbite of the United Hockey League where in his two seasons there he also played six games in the American Hockey League with the Rochester Americans, six for the Portland Pirates and seven games in the ECHL for the Augusta Lynx. He would also play for the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays and Long Beach Ice Dogs before finishing his career in the Central Hockey League, playing one season with the Youngstown Steelhounds and two seasons with the Corpus Christi IceRays.He retired on August 11, 2010 and became director of scouting with the IceRays, however he came out of retirement a few months later and split the season with the Laredo Bucks and the Texas Brahmas.
