She was under the command of her master, Frederick Stephenson.The convoy came under attack from a "wolfpack" while crossing the Atlantic, and at 23.10 hours on 21 September Canonesa was one of three ships torpedoed and sunk by the German U-boat U-100 under Joachim Schepke. She sank about 340 miles west of Bloody Foreland with the loss of one crew member. The remaining 61 survivors were picked up by the Flower-class corvette HMS La Malouine.. }
