The station is 8 1⁄4 miles (13.3 km) south of Ramsgate on the Kent Coast Line.The station lost its last dedicated stationmaster (Mr Newton) in the mid-1960s. There was formerly quite an extensive goods yard adjoining the station but by the 1960s this had become disused and is now completely built over by a small housing estate.[citation needed]Until 1967 a service operated between Sandwich and Birkenhead Woodside via Ashford, Redhill, Reading, Oxford, Birmingham Snow Hill and Shrewsbury.
