The app works by combining geo-location and ID3 music tagging technology to give users a snapshot of music trends based on people, locations, groups and genres.Soundwave was founded by Brendan O’Driscoll and Aidan Sliney in November 2011 in Dublin, Ireland. After initial validation studies and customer interviews, the team applied to the National Digital Research Centre Launchpad accelerator programme. Soundwave received a place in the 5th iteration of the programme that began on 13 February 2012. During the programme Craig Watson joined the founding team. In May 2012, the team were awarded 1st place as the best start-up to graduate from the accelerator programme having been selected as the winner by a panel of 4 judges.Soundwave was launched worldwide on iPhone and Android on June 20, 2013 in 14 languages.
