Confirmed by the Senate on May 14, 1998, he received commission on May 22, 1998.Mickle was the first black man to receive University of Florida's Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1999.In 2009, Judge Mickle was elevated to the position of Chief Judge of the Northern District of Florida.
