Formed originally to record a solo project by the singer and songwriter Mike Barry, former singer for Pooka Stew, the line-up of guitarist Milt Reder, bassist Dean Cassell, and legendary English folk drummer Dave Mattacks - who has recorded with many noted acts including Paul McCartney, XTC and Richard Thompson - clicked, and Super Genius was born.The band's debut album, Eleven Songs About Love, Lies, Money, Class-Warfare and Monkeys, was positively reviewed in a number of U.S., publications, including the Boston Globe and Boston Herald, then was picked up by Bob Harris from BBC Radio 2, who called the album "music...from people who really DO know what they're doing" and chose it as one of his "best of 2003". This led to the band's signing a deal with Track Records, who released it, with a bonus track and video, as "The Cult of Money." However, due to lead singer Mike Barry's fear of flying, the band never toured to support the record in the UK.The band's second album, "Heel Thyself", was released on July 17, 2007. It features guest vocals on three songs from Syd Straw, as well as vocal performances from Amy Fairchild, Ramona Silver and Elaine O'Rourke.In recent years, Mattacks and Barry have collaborated to record and produce various artists.. }
