The suburb contains a Centro shopping centre, which is similar to another shopping centre in Victoria Point, both of which opened in late 2003.The Taigum area was first developed around 1891, as part of a subdivision of the Nundah Divisional board. In 1901, it was suggested, unsuccessfully, by the board that the name be changed to "Tyghum Divisional Board".
