It housed the langue of Auvergne until the French occupation of Malta in 1798. Auberge d'Auvergne was located in Great Siege Square in Strada San Giorgio, which is now known as Republic Street. The Auberge had a square plan with a central courtyard. This was surrounded by arches on two sides. The Auberge was enlarged and renovated in 1783. The ruins were cleared after the war and a new neo-classical design Court of Justice building was erected in its place in the late 1960s.
