It was built in 1917 for the Chapin National Bank, which was established in 1872 by the local transportation magnate Chester Chapin, on the site of a previous building of the same bank. The two story Neo-Classical cast stone structure has classical Doric friezes on both its Main Street and Lyman Street facades. When built both facades had a line of Doric columns, but those on the Lyman Street side have either been paneled over or removed.
