The school was founded as John Kelly Boys' Technology College in 1958 and is set in pleasant and extensive grounds. The school is served by a number of bus routes (332, 245, 182, 16) and is local to Neasden and Dollis Hill Underground stations.John Kelly Boys' Technology College turned into an academy on 1 September 2009, and became Crest Boys' Academy (sponsored by E-ACT). The school is situated next to Crest Girls' Academy, and both schools share a sixth form. A recent Ofsted report in June 2013 placed the school in special measures claiming it offered an inadequate standard of education. The Academy has recently undergone a restructure with both new teaching and leadership appointments to drive forward standards. The Academy has recently sought consultation over plans to merge both Crest Boys' Academy and Crest Girls' Academy into one school, however retaining single sex education. The Academy is due to merge in September 2014 and set to move into it's new £40 million building also.Crest Boys' Academy GCSE results remain below the National Average. In 2011, 46% of students achieved 5 GCSE grades at A*-C including English and Maths. This decreased dramatically in 2012, with only 33% of students achieving this headline figure, placing the school amongst the lowest performing in Britain.
