It consists of five 2.5 story brick rowhouses built by the Hadley Falls Mill Company, which was established in 1847 in a bid to recreate the success at Holyoke of the industrialization effort at Lowell, Massachusetts. The rowhouses, located on Grover, North Canal, Lyman, and Center Streets at the north end of Holyoke, were built beginning in 1848 under the auspices of engineer John Chase and contractor Charles McClallan.
