The riot was caused by the neo-Nazi organisation Combat 18, and injured twenty people. Combat 18's plans to cause trouble during the match was known by the British National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS), and this was communicated to the Gardaí (Irish police). An inquiry into the events found that they could have been avoided if the Gardaí had acted on the information from the NCIS. The next meeting between the two sides would not take place until 29 May 2013, a friendly at Wembley Stadium that finished in a 1–1 draw.. }
