Built in 1791, the meeting house is one of a small number of virtually unaltered meeting houses to survive in northern New England. The principal alterations have been to remove exterior vestibules that housed stairwells, and the flooring over at the gallery level to create a full second story, both done in the 1840s. The pews and pulpit originally on the first floor have also been removed. The building was moved about 1/2 mile in 1941-2 to make way for a flood control project, and was given a modern concrete foundation in 1979.
