The hotel was once the social center of Clarksburg. In its day it was a gathering place for parties, weddings, civic meetings and social events. It was known as one of the world's most luxurious hotels.[citation needed]Today the Waldo sits abandoned and condemned. Many local groups are trying to save the building from destruction and keep the rich history of Clarksburg alive.There are two groups in the city of Clarksburg associated with the structure, one that would like to see it restored and one that would like to see it razed due to its continued deterioration and hazards presented to the community.Currently the sidewalk and turning land of West Pike street are blocked due to a brick fall from the East tower on that street.The Division of Highways contacted the current owners of the property on November of last year requesting 'that the organization provide the city with an engineering report on the building’s structural integrity.'. }
