Established in April 2002 by Nicholas Cobic and current editor James Byrne, The Wolf publishes emerging poets alongside more established writers. Poets recently featured in The Wolf include Adonis, Derek Walcott, Carolyn Forche, John Kinsella, C.D. Wright, Penelope Shuttle, Peter Redgrove, Niall McDevitt and Sandeep Parmar. A strong regard for international poetry is central to The Wolf's aesthetic, recent features have included an introduction to contemporary Burmese poetry and translations from the Al-Sendian festival in Syria.The magazine includes interviews with leading contemporary poets, poems, translations, book reviews and critical prose. Recent critical work has included pieces on Ezra Pound, Mina Loy and HD, plus 'Reintroduction[s]' to the work of marginalized poets Hope Mirrlees and Lola Ridge. Additionally, The Wolf features contemporary art work with an artist-in-residence in each issue. Every year The Wolf showcases some of the best poets published in the magazine with an international tour. Recent tours have included visits to Montreal, Boston, London and Paris.The Wolf magazine was, in 2008, given the support of the Arts Council, England.
